As Planned – Some Spinning

I have been glued to my spinning wheel this week and the grey fleece (my major project) is nearing the end.  The little sample of white merino is finished, it was difficult to spin due to the short staple length – but I did learn alot.TdF Day9 plying2 TdF Day9 plying In fact this week has seen my spinning skills improve enormously.  Putting in the hours and watching a few Interweave DVDs has given me some great tips and a bit of confidence.

I am spinning on the smaller whorl now and I have modified my drafting to be a backwards draft with the forward hand providing tension only.  I’ve previously used a forward pinching draw which is pretty tiring on my hand and forearm.

    Dear Claire,

I just discovered your blog and spend a wonderfully pleasant hour reading through your archives…the way you craft is so inspiring! There is so much love for detail and true craftsmanship, and the colours make me feel all summery/beachy/must-eat-berry-tartelettes-at-sunset 🙂

(I guess it’s that purple-red floor pillow that triggered the berry association)

In case you’re wondering: I discovered your blog by googling “embroidered christmas ornaments” and pretty much straight away I added you to my bloglovin reader 🙂 The only problem now is that now I want to learn how to weave and, oh my, that might be rather complicated in my tiny apartement…

Liebe Grüße aus Berlin, and thank you for making my day!

Oh thank you so much Marta for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment. If the weaving thing lingers with you, definitely look at getting a small loom or joining a weaving guild (I bet there is one in Berlin!), it is a lot of fun 😀

And now I’m wondering what I did with those christmas ornaments! lol

Oh, the products of your spinning look really beautiful! My mum has a spinning wheel; she hasn’t used it for a few years but I have childhood memories of the basket of fleece, and the balls of yarn stacking up ready for weaving…
